C. elegans- related genetic experiments, such as backcross, cross and balancer cross, are frequently adopted in the scientific research when using C. elegans as a research model. By backcrossing the mutant with wild-type N2 or original background strain, The unrelated background mutation can be erased.

We could easily generate a compound (double) mutant by crossing different (two) mutants. We have successfully generated mutants with 10 alleles which are on five different chromosomes. The lethal allele or sterile allele can be stably maintained through the balancer cross experiment.
